The great Texas Blizzard of 2015 is upon us. First off, thank you to everyone that braved the cold, rain and wind to join us at the World of Beer Arlington for some great trivia. Even though we had quite the intimate setting for trivia reminiscent of the original pub quizzes that started across the pond many years ago, it was still a great night for beer and trivia! We certainly hope that each of you made it home safely despite all the snow, ice, and idiots on the road....read about that here.

The first game of the night, we paid homage to the great state we all call home, Texas. Very quickly, we realized that not everyone in the bar calls Texas home, and only a small number of folks actually know some trivial facts about the state. Here's the deal; Monday was Texas Independence Day. For more information about this, click here. You have a little less than one year to prepare, but you might want to brush up on some of your Texas trivia before next year because we'll probably do this again. Proving their prowess over all-things-Texas and thus winning game number one of PubGuys trivia was Anne Frank's Hide and Seek Club. Finishing just behind them in second place was Quiz in My Pants

In the Power Hour, we ditched Texas trivia and returned to the familiar much to the delight of several teams full of non-Texans (It's ok, we still love you and love that you love to love our lovely trivia). Stepping up in the Power Hour and winning in rather dominating fashion was Sodomatic Weapons. Coming in second and winning another gift card on the night was Quiz in My Pants. And I know what you're going to say, yes, we'll put the Kitchen Timer question back in for next week. In the meantime, you might want to drink a few more beers from some Texas breweries since the visual round was apparently rather challenging.

Now before we get to the funny answers on the night, let me mention that we're starting the ESPN NCAA Tourney Challenge this week. Our Arlington players will be competing against the players from WOB-SMU for bragging rights. Not only that, the person with the best bracket will win a World of Beer gift card from the PubGuys. It's absolutely free to play, and the more people that join in, the larger the prize. Plus, it's a competition with our cross-town neighbors so we HAVE to win. Go sign up here. The password is wobarlington

Some interesting facts we learned at trivia last night:

  • The Super Bowl is the Texas stadium that is frequently referred to as the "8th Wonder of the World"
  • Before it was Austin, TX, it was apparently named Albuquerque; perhaps even El Paso.
  • The trail of tears and beers was the name of the cattle trail leading from Texas ranches to Kansas railways
  • The F in Stephen F. Austin stands for "Fasha" - see reference here.
  • Mount Everest is the highest peak in Texas
  • Abe Lincoln was the first President of the Republic of Texas

Now, don't forget to sign up for the PubGuys 3rd Annual NCAA Tournament Challenge. Send your $20 to events@pubguys.com to join. The drawing will be held Sunday, March 15 at 4pm at the World of Beer Arlington. Also, sign up for our newsletter and follow us on all the social networking sites. Be sure to relentlessly ridicule Terrill next week while I'm out hitting the slopes. In fact, if you would like an extra point for next week, simply go up to Terrill during the show and tell him "Guns Up!" Do that, and you'll get an extra point, I promise.

Thanks again for playing.

Cheers,

PGAdam
