I had not been back to Dr. Jeckylls for a very long time. I can't believe how different it looks! Well done, John Valentine! I need to bring my wife one evening for some music.
As I mentioned last night, Dr. Jeckylls is not only the first place where I played PubGuys trivia, but it is the very first place I played bar trivia about 5 years ago. I was living a commuting lifestyle for three years and my evenings during the week were open. So, I popped into Jeckylls one Monday evening and met a lot of great folks who like trivia - including John Valentine, Joey Frazor, Stephen and Lara Fornal, Laura Penuel, etc. Now that I live in the DFW area, I just don't get there as often. It was great not only to be back, but to get to host trivia was quite an honor. Thanks, Stephen, for allowing me to sub.
We had four teams that did very well - Shade & Sweetwater, Last of the Pantegans, Sorry We're on Tinder, and Top 5 or Bust. The 5th team, the Deer Hitters were in it for one round and then decided to prioritize their time and focus on drinking.
I awarded up to two bonus points for each round. One for a bonus question that built on one of the five questions and another if a team could name the year in which all the songs I played during that round were released. My Spotify was acting up so I needed to dig deep into different genres a few times. They almost booed me off the stage when I played two country songs.
Things were tight the first few rounds. Then, it became a two-team race, with Sorry We Met on Tinder and Top 5 or Bust being tied through five rounds. In the 6th round, I thought for sure we would go to a tiebreaker and I was prepared with a Dallas Cowboys question: Since 1960, how many head coaches have the Cowboys had? The answer is 9. Fortunately, we didn't need the tiebreaker as SWMOT edged TFOB by a single point.
I thoroughly enjoyed my time hosting and enjoyed the cold drafts of Miracle Wheat by Hop & Sting even more. I hope to see everyone again soon - probably as a player and not as host.
