Siren Rock Brewing Company

It is always bittersweet to say goodbye. Unbeknownst to us all this was to be our last gathering, yet I could not have asked for a better group of people to celebrate our last Trivia at Siren Rock.

Breaking away from the tradition of recounting the night and ensuing shenanigans, I would like instead to dedicate this write up to my players.
In having spent a little over a year celebrating life together, I have had the opportunity and pleasure of getting to know some exceptional characters who in turn created their own little niche in my life.

The Brewsters, also known as The DMZ, were the first team to become a regular fixture within these nights. Darla and Jon, Brandon and Jennifer, Evan and Aubrey, Andrew and Sophia, packed the table with knowledge while keeping me on my toes regularly. In the grand scheme of things, they were my Mrs. Landingham, incomparable and inimitable, making sure I did not skip reading the answers to our rounds or skipped a round entirely- which I did, to my chagrin. Between Darla and Jon smarting out by hollering “One”, and Brandon’s “SPORTS” and “SCIENCE”, there was never a dull moment.

Let’s Get Quizzical, also part of the hybrid The DMZ, comes next. Steven and Shannon, Teresa and John, Drew and Heather, adopted our game with alacrity and a keen eye for sass. I could rely on Steven like clockwork to make sure I pronounced things correctly or counted points accurately, on Drew to expound on the history questions, on Jon's dad jokes and mix of languages when answering "ONE -DOS", on Heather to know everything related to movies, on Shannon to share craft talk and wear the best earrings, and Teresa to talk pyr love and rescue work.

Quizly Bears, also known as JDPB, joined this year yet quickly cemented their place amongst our company. Jonathan and Alex, Jackson, and the rest of their group of friends- Whom, while slowly getting to know I unfortunately cannot recall their names, which grieves me. Nevertheless, the unwavering support and quips filled the night with delight, if there was one team I could depend on laughing at my awful jokes, this was it.

Putin on the Blitz, who amazed enough pseudonyms to fill a booklet, was another perennial favorite. Although I also regret not being able to learn the names of this dynamic duet, their appearance was always welcomed when their schedule allowed.

There are also teams that ebbed into our games as life allowed them to, but whom made it a pleasure to see them:

Hoosier Daddy, 2 for Tuesday, Boo Bears, Pen is Mightiers, Home Alone, 3 Musketeers, We Have a New David, and I am certain I am leaving names out.

I am not inured to the gift of your time, which is a commodity we all choose to spend carefully. Getting to know you all, within your groups as well as individually, watching new friendships unfurl in between teams, celebrating your lives and achievements, the joy for the future generations you are bringing forth, being able to share a bit of myself with you, is a priceless gift I will carry with me always.

Thank you, from the bottom of my heart. Not only for your patronage, but for making our trivia nights something I will actively miss. That is a present in and of itself, it means we made memories that will shine bright for years to come.

“And all will turn

To silver glass

A light on the water

Grey ships pass

Into the West”

Until we meet again. Always yours,
