Let’s get dangerous!

There is always a game that is weird, regardless of what is happening around it. Tonight’s gathering earned that descriptor, since it was a mixture of sass, aggressive smelling, and the thoughtless ramblings of the very drunk.

We were small yet the noise level never let up, as the ladies from McPari’s made a comeback and brought the rest of the family to partake of their new vice. Due to initially having low team numbers, the players of The DMZ split into two smaller teams: The Brumbelow Brood and the perennial Let’s Get Quizzical

Two new teams, The One Group, and The Peacemaker and Eagly also joined our numbers to make the competition exciting.

You never realize how music is ingrained in your brain, until you have to sit down and count fa la la’s. Which is exactly what all the teams did, for our second round when they were asked

  • How many "las" are after the "fa" in "Deck the Halls"?

It will come as no surprise that the amusement I garnered from this question will keep me going for a few days. Nothing is more endearing than watching players sing out loud while keeping tempo with their counting fingers.

The one hiccup of the night was during question one of our fourth round

  • What Chinese-American martial arts icon died in 1973 at the young age of thirty-two?

A very drunk patron lacking chagrin shouted the answer repeatedly, to the frustration of myself and the players. After a terse exchange, it was proved that the old adage of Hanlon’s Razor will always remain relevant, “never attribute to malice that which is adequately explained by stupidity”. And so the world turns.

Yet the rest of the night was permeated with laughter, and the mystifying moment of one of the players from McPari’s smelling the clothing of one of the Blumbellow Brood members. To be fair, they were both geeking over cars and Evan did smell like oil. Still, one could go a mighty long time without needing to witness that again.

The scores were packed incredibly tight, with McPari’s winning their first game by 44 points, and The Brumbelow Brood claiming second place with 40. Closing our top 3 was Let’s Get Quizzical with 38.

My utmost thanks to everyone who played, I hope to see you again next week!

Always yours,
