Siren Rock Brewing Company

As we can all guess, this week's game was Mardi Gras themed, but what none of us saw coming was the entire game from beginning to end spearing us with tidbits and factoids about the celebration.

We basically beat culture into the cranium of every player, willing or not. If the teams actually remember anything through the red-mist of frustration I will eat my own carnival beads.

Moving on!

The evening started slightly rocky as the first round was low on points, high on eye rollings, and peppered with lamentations coming from the newly minted Greek Chorus, Brewsters.

Necessity being the mother of all resourcefulness, grabbed the game by its feet and savagely shook it in the coming rounds. First Brewsters, then Let's Get Quizzical, spent the time in-between rounds studying material from a website they found, that had as similar information as could be to our subject matter.

Before you wonder, I did not consider this cheating. None of them had their phones out during the round, though I did feel like a teacher telling them to put their phones away before delving into the next bouquet of questions, and their memorizing prowess was admirable.

Life has also taught me that you cannot apply breaks to an erupting volcano- call me Hephaestus. Why stop something that made the teams focus their murder fantasies *not* on me?

We had newcomers dressed for the occasion and ready to mambo, S&S, We Know Nothing, and Bourbon Street Bums joined and fought tooth and nail for each point.

A return of Budtenders ; We have a new David, who were to the game what Van Gogh's ear was for music; and Rama Squad (also known as Home Alone) made for a lively evening.

Yet I must admit that the information was incredibly interesting. Aside from the refresher knowledge of Roman Gods, Krews, the rule of costume mask wearing, and the meaning of each Mardi Gras color, questions such as

The people of Ivrea, Italy, traditionally wrap up Carnival celebrations with the Battaglia delle Arance which translates to what?

Helped us learn about the biggest food war in the world!

And something I had never realized before, there is an official anthem of Mardi Gras in New Orleans. It is a lovely song, you should find it and listen to it.

Our teams ended up strewn all over the place, not unlike a class of drunk yoga. In the lead Brewsters took the game home with 45 points.

Let's Get Quizzical landed solidly in second place with 31 and We know Nothing capped our top three with 16 points.

My utmost thanks to everyone for keeping the energy going, even if it was a bit maniacal at times. Not that I am judging, after all there's nothing wrong with all of you that reincarnation won't cure.

Hope to see you back next Tuesday,

Always yours
