This week is the fabled St. Patrick’s day, so of course the entire bar and most of the attendees were bedecked in green, and funny hats abounded. Happy St. Paddy’s Day!
In the spirit of the shindig, 10 teams filled tables and comfy chairs to show their prowess and win our price of the night! A $25 gift card to our very own Siren Rock.
From the get go McPari’s made an impression! These ladies moved from up north and were scouting potentially new places to satisfy their trivia habit. I hope they found our gathering deserving of their return, since they were both lovely humans. (Read: they laughed at all my jokes). Left Over 3.14(PI) also made a dent in my attention, since they showed their punny sense of humor considering that yesterday was Pi Day.
Right off the gate our game began with controversy, as question 5 of our first round asked
What animal is the source of the milk used in making Roquefort cheese?
My players were none too amused when they discovered that merely writing “sheep” was not grounds for getting the answer right. The devil is in the details, my homies.
I know, you can probably see why I make friends left and right.
Puppy People brought their competitive streak! For the first 3 rounds they topped the score board, and after a few hiccups rose once again to give a healthy amount of challenge to one of our regular teams, Let’s Get Quizzical. Between them both, Flying Waffles, and I don’t know I am 11, the wacky races were fierce since they were either tying or pulling ahead of one another by a margin of one point for most of the game.
Watching from the sidelines, and perhaps egging on, was nerve wracking! You would think the Romans would have adopted Trivia as a blood sport. Amateurs.
Yet, by all accounts, the question that made your Hostess feel the most salty was
Which of the Seven Dwarfs comes first alphabetically?
Most of the bozos in attendance completely forgot about their alphabet, as well as successfully erasing Bashful. How could you? He is so cute!
The rest of the game gave nods to the 35th President of the USA and its ties to Dallas, as well as teaching us who Lorne Michaels was, and what he created.
By the end of the night 7 teams broke the 30 point barrier and were ruthlessly pursuing the bragging rights of being declared the champion. Our Bonus question gave the necessary leverage to The Flying Waffles to claim victory over all their enemies, with a score of 39 points. Second place went to Puppy People, with 36 and Let’s Get Quizzical closed our top 3 with 35 points.
Huge thanks to All Paul, Sheesh, R3S, and Trivia Virgins for choosing to spend the night with us, and a huge round of applause to the Siren Rock bartending team for not throwing anything at me in the two hours they have to hear me yap.
