Siren Rock Brewing Company

On this our first game of May, I got the delightful surprise of seeing 4 of the members of Let’s Get Quizzical return after a prolonged hiatus.Welcome!

At this return DMZ, an amalgamation of the team Brewsters plus 2 of the members of LGQ who stayed through the rest of the team’s absence, has served its purpose and been put to rest.

Stay tuned to see who will get visitation rights to the two floating members of DMZ/LGQ currently absent from our games (they are traveling. I know. The audacity.).

Now that you have gotten the rundown of the Hispanic Telenovela that are our Trivia games, let us get to the rest of the night!

Five teams joined us for a fairly friendly and low key game. The questions were fairly eclectic, oscillating from “Most birds have how many toes on each foot?” to “What Carthaginian leader marched war Elephants over the Alps to make war in Northern Italy?” There was also a nod to Argentina during the fourth question of our 5th round, to which yours truly had to augment by sharing some historical facts.

The night turned exciting for me, as I found myself losing my voice due to being allergic to the entire state of Texas. Resigning to having to mime the rest of the questions, I was rescued by the incomparable Lauryn, Tap Room Manager of Siren Rock, who made me a concoction of honey, hot water, and lemon. Like a dutiful patient I took my medicine, and thanks to Lauryn’s efforts my voice held up for the rest of the game.

Which prepared me for the best round of the night, our last one, particularly question number five.

Not counting young Rey’s screams, who’s voice is the first heard in Rey’s force vision after touching Luke’s lightsaber?

Darla, from Brewsters, approached me to ask for a favor: Since the newly returned Steven from Let’s Get Quizzical is a Star Wars fan and was pretty confident he had nailed the question, Brewsters wanted to prank him as a “Welcome Back!” gift. Instead of giving the right answer, I was to say Obi-Wan Kenobi.

Boy, was that fun.

While the Brewster team was gleefully recording and looking over for a reaction, I gave the wrong answer. To say this poor man was experiencing life at several WTF per second is an understatement, the entire LGQ team turned to stare at him in what can only be described as reproachful disgust.

Not able to contain my laughter any longer, I finally had to put him out of his misery and explain the whole situation to the rest of the gamers. In the span of a second, Steven ricocheted from incredulous rage to elation. Humans are such elastic beings.

And yes, I do have a copy of the video taken. What happens in Trivia stays in youtube. (Not really, but maybe)

We closed the night with JDPB taking the lead, with 46 points, and the prize! LGQ landed in second place with 40 points, claiming the flight of beer. Third place was inhabited by Brewsters with 37 points. Hannah and the Boys took fourth with 29 and Harmonics closed our scoreboard with 22 points.

Thank you to everyone who showed up and shared in the unadulterated fun of the night, hope to see you next week while we all try to survive another Trivia night!

Always yours,

PG Snapdragon.
