Welcome to spring in the cactus state! That dream within a dream, where pollen can be described as homicidal, and the wind should get jail time for shunning all speed limits. The hills are alive with the sound of hacking, sneezing, and the magic in the air.

Speaking of magic, monsoon weather has come here to stay. Making itself cozily at home, while eating our mashed potatoes and leaving the toilet seat up. April and May are the Moonlight Sonata of tornado sirens and hail dents. C’est la vie!

While storms briskly surrounded the area for another round of “How many pellets of frozen rain can the cumulonimbus clouds hit your car with?” we sported a small and fearless gathering of intrepid players, a healthy mixture of veterans of the game and fresh blood. Attila the Hun would have wept with pride.

Our questions were rather benign, which of course made all the teams stand on tiptoe looking for the springing trap. Come for trivia, stay for the confusion.

Fourth round had this gem:

How many pairs of legs does a lobster have?

Not certain if it is comforting or frightening, how many of you have no idea how many legs are in your potential meals.
DMZ bestowed upon me a free biology lesson, even drawing pictures. I am certain I have reached the pinnacle of aquatic knowledge.

2 Peas in a Pod earned the achievement of being the only team to get all the answers correct in a round. Gaining 9 points on our second themed set of the night, without breaking a sweat.

While some of my most favorite authors were peppered here and there, an unprecedented question pertaining to King Arthur; which was one of my utmost favorite subjects to put people to sleep with at a young age (9th grade me is still VERY much alive); baffled all our teams except for one:

In Arthurian legends, what is the name of Lancelot's son?

Here for the Beer shucked everything out of the boat by answering Lancelittle, and while they got zero points, they did endear themselves to me greatly. #MakeGalahadGreatAgain

In the midst of our game a superbly glittering rainbow broke from the clouds to the bewilderment of us all. My utmost thanks to DMZ for calling my attention to it, since my back was turned, and to Bailey from Siren Rock for snapping many lovely pictures of it.

Our night closed with Here for the Beer bringing the rearguard with 23 points. Our two new teams landed third and second place respectively, The Peacemaker and Eagly with 25 points and 2 Peas in a Pod with 29. And The DMZ took first place with 42 points and earned our price of the night.

As always, our bartenders were sensational, and managed to keep everyone alive for the two hours of the game.

Hope you join me again next Tuesday at 7pm, for another try at being charming,

Always Yours.
