False Idol Brewing

"Neither snow nor rain nor heat nor gloom of night stays these Hosts from the swift completion of their appointed games"

Thursday was an eventful day, not only due to the weather shrouding itself in cold and iced roads, but also since I found myself covering for Desmond at False Idol, and petting all the puppies.

The evening started with a bit of a drawback, the mics in attendance staged a silent coup and refused to be used for the night’s entertainment. Which meant that for 2 hours, yours truly vociferously projected questions and witty repartee to the ever patient crowd - I was born to be loud. The crowd was incredible and made this easy by politely paying attention even if they were not playing. You all have my heartfelt thanks.

Huge shoutout to both our amazing bartenders who were helping me, but particularly to Juan, who went above and beyond trying to work some sense with the technology.

Routine, being a rigorous mistress, had the Trivia teams training me in no time to tell them who had won each round, so they could receive a complimentary tester from the bar! Which, truth be told, is a very neat way to make certain that people keep a razor sharp sense of competition.

In turn everyone learned the call and response for questions with 2 or 3 points. Needless to say, the enthusiasm from all attendees was positively oozing. I am fairly certain someone is waking up in cold sweats, bewilderingly screaming 1-2-3, before falling back asleep.

One of our late pub newcomers became very popular very quickly, when she reflexively answered question #3 of our second round

The smallest bone and muscle in the human body are both found where?

The shushing that followed would have made a Librarian weep with pride.

But the most impressive part of the night was the accuracy of the answers in our Bonus question

What are the names of the 8 US states that border a Great Lake?

Of our 7 teams, 3 got all 8 States right, and a fourth one got 9. Somewhere in the world, a Geography teacher is getting their wings.

Our top three teams then ended thusly, in first place was Immaculate Fermentation with 42 points (and two of the cutest puppies in attendance), landing in second came Raise the Bar with 40 points, and Team Friday took the bronze with 39 points.

All together I had a grand time and hope the crowd did as well. Stay tuned for the return of your regular Trivia host, Desmond, next Thursday at 7pm! Hopefully with a working mic ;)

Always yours,

PGSnapdragon
