Before the endless stream of ephemeral memes du jour, cultural touchpoints were once near-universal. For example, "Randy Johnson hits bird." Four words, instant ubiquity.
(In the infinitesimally small chance you're reading this on some sort of Voyager-esque Golden Record on which this passage was included and you're confused, here's what I'm talking about.)
It's March 26, 2001, and Randy Johnson's Diamondbacks are in the seventh inning of a spring exhibition game against the San Francisco Giants. As Johnson winds up his fastball, a dove swoops down to intercept the pitch perfectly, exploding like some kind of avian firework.
Anyway, here's how the night's trivia sesh went down: Brian kicked off the evening with a near-perfect card to take Round One. TBD responded with a perfect-card Round Two win. Corn Suckerz snuck in a single-point win in a difficult Round Three. Rounds four and five saw Ace & Gary face off with The Goofy Goobers in back-to-back tie-breakers. (Each team picked up a victory.) And Ace & Gary closed out the evening with a near-perfect card to take Round Six.
