“The whole of life is just like watching a film. Only it's as though you always get in ten minutes after the big picture has started, and no-one will tell you the plot, so you have to work it out all yourself from the clues.”

And so this November heralds a new adventure for PubGuys, coming back to Hayters in Downtown Arlington!

Last Thursday was met by teams joining forces to not only claim all 7 trivia prizes (I KNOW!) but also to partake in the most absurd and delightful two hours! Let us break it down, shall we?

We started the evening with crisp weather, fantastic drink specials, the wafting smell of delicious BBQ being served across the way, and enough competition to sink a small island. Our price brackets were more than enough incentive to play and play hard, for both games each round had their own rewards!

1st round: $5 Hayter’s certificate

2nd round: $10 Hayter’s certificate

3rd round”: $15 Hayter’s certificate

And for the team with the most points of the night, a $20 Hayter’s certificate!

From the start competition was fierce between Chicken Noodle Soup and The Chicken Dinners. On our first round we already had to do a tie breaker, which The Chicken Dinners won by one point, taking the first gift $5 gift certificate of the night!

Their streak continued through the 2nd round, claiming another certificate for $10, but towards the end Chicken Noodle Soup muster their wits and won the last round of our first game, bringing home $15 worth of prices.

Though Round 3, question 4 almost took us to divorce court, since The Chicken Dinners generic answer to the specific question of

What creature is Athena, the Greek goddess of wisdom, associated with?

was “birbs”, which while not being wrong was also not correct, to their eternal boos.

After a brief interlude full of delicious BBQ and amicable chatter, we were joined on the second half of the night by the out-of-towners Brand Brigade, who were not only ready to party but also laughed at all my jokes, and included doodles of all their answers in their trivia sheets, thusly becoming my favourites!

During our second game The Chicken Dinners continued to amass a small fortune after winning again on their first round, but that is unfortunately where their luck ended, with striking alacrity and no small amount of sass, Chicken Noodle Soup claimed the second round, and Brand Brigade not only won the last round of the night, but also had the best scores of both games, thusly pocketing both certificates for $15 and $20 respectively.

It was quite honestly such a fun night, The Chicken Dinners bought me a beer in celebration, Chicken Noodle promised to be back next Thursday with as many friends as they could harangue, and Brand Brigade promised to return in July of next year –  and with Josh behind the bar slinging drinks, and the amazing servers carting food back and forth, none of us could have asked for a more successful night.

Come enjoy the tantalizing nearness of the weekend with us next Thursday at 7pm, and experience firsthand why I should not be given a microphone at any given time.

Always yours,

PG Snapdragon
