We were back for week two at Dog Haus in the Arlington Highlands! I've been a fan of their amazing food, superb beer selection, and great staff since they opened several years ago in the Highlands. They also have a large array of TVs playing sports as well so, with football season starting, it's a great place to catch a game, too! Each week 1st place received $25 cash and each player on the 2nd place team received a coupon for free food for the next time they dined at Dog Haus. In my opinion Dog Haus and PubGuys trivia is a winning combination, especially since it's also $3 Well Wednesdays as well!
Each week we'll have two games that are played between 7 and 9 PM. Each game has three rounds each, with bonus rounds allowing teams to win extra points to boost their scores. Our first game always has a Visual Round, in which each team is given a sheet with 10 visual clues. At the end of the 1st game that sheet has to be turned in for a possible 10 bonus points to be added to their score. The second game has a bonus Kitchen Timer Round, where the teams are given a time limit to win between 6-10 extra points to tack on to their score. Both games also have a Themed Round, where all the questions and answers are based around a common theme. If the team guesses the theme they get an additional point added to their score. Here's a recap of what happened!
Game 1
We had three of the teams from last week, Inappropriately Confident, Team With No Name, and Mouseaholics back at it again to try to take home the 1st place prize for each game. Joining them was Raider and The Service Crew from Dog Haus giving it a shot! This week's Themed Round for Game 1 was You're Gonna Need a Bigger Boat, so all the questions and answers revolved around boats. There was also a Visual Round for Game 1, and this time it was College Mascots. That gave teams a shot at 10 additional points when they turned it in at the end of Round 3. It was a VERY close game this time, with a three-point spread between 1st and 3rd. Ultimately Inappropriately Confident took 1st place with 33 points, and Mousaholics took 2nd with 31. Here's a question that stumped everyone:
In 2012, a re-construction of which famous ship sank off the coast of North Carolina during hurricane Sandy?
This is a tough one, and one I've seen take down smart teams before, so it was no surprise that nobody got it right. It wasn't the Mayflower or the S. S. Minnow, it was:
HMS Bounty
Game 2
This game we lost one team and gained one team, leaving the total team count at five. The new team, Price, tried their best to keep up with the trivia pros from last week. During this game the Themed Round was all about Cars, so the questions/answers were all based around car trivia. There was also a Kitchen Timer Round worth 7 bonus points. The question for that round was: Name the seven European capital cities that begin with the letter "B". We were having a great time, especially with the $3 well drink special going on but, alas, all things must come to an end. Wrapping up this game we had Team With No Name come in 1st, with Inappropriately Confident pushing Mousaholics out of 2nd by two points. Here's another one that almost stumped everyone:
What Massachusetts city is considered the "Birthplace of Basketball"?
It wasn't Plymouth, Cambridge, or Salem, Massachusetts, which were common answers. But only two teams got the answer right with:
Springfield
I look forward to coming back next week to Dog Haus in the Arlington Highlands for another fabulous game of trivia with me, your host, and PubGuys Trivia! If you come out I highly recommend their Hangover burger, or their Hangover burrito, they're both extremely delicious. Their Cowboy dog is also extremely tasty, albeit a little messy to eat. They also offer up sliders, fries, tots, and a constantly rotating beer selection, so no two trips there are the same! Come out next week for more fun, FREE, trivia with me and PubGuys Trivia! Until next time!
