Tonight, we embark on a new journey with PugGuys Trivia and Dog Haus in the Arlington Highlands! We had the great honor of being the first trivia night at this location, and we had a pretty solid turnout for our first night ever! It's free to play, and the food is absolutely fantastic, so come on out if you want to give yourself a challenge!
Each week we'll have two games that are played between 7 and 9 PM. Each game has three rounds each, with bonus rounds allowing teams to win extra points to boost their scores. Our first game always has a Visual Round, in which each team is given a sheet with 10 visual clues. At the end of the 1st game that sheet has to be turned in for a possible 10 bonus points to be added to their score. The second game has a bonus Kitchen Timer Round, where the teams are given a time limit to win between 6-10 extra points to tack on to their score. Both games also have a Themed Round, where all the questions and answers are based around a common theme. If the team gueses the theme they get an additional point added to their score. Now that you know how it's done, let's go through what happened!
This week we had Mousaholics and The Team With No Name come out for some fun, FREE, trivia at Dog Haus! Along with them we also had We Love Sausage, Bar, and Inappropriately Confident. Even though it was our first time at this location we still had around 30 players flexing their brain muscles while enjoying the great beer selection at Dog Haus! The Theme for this game's 2nd round was All about the Children, so each question and answer referenced children or child-like activities. The Visual Round for this game was 7-letter movies, so each team was provided a visual sheet that had close-ups of movie posters. The teams had to name each movie for a chance at 10 bonus points. Mousaholics came out on top with a pretty large lead over Inappropriately Confident, with The Team With No Name coming in 3rd. Here's a question that stumped everyone:
What toy company introduced the Easy-Bake Oven in 1963?
There were a lot of teams that said Mattel, Hasbro, or Fisher Price. The correct answer was:
This game we actually gained another set of players that were hanging out during Game 1, taking our total team count to 6. The new team, Brew Crew, ended up taking 3rd place overall since we had a tie between Mousaholics and The Team With No Name. The Theme for this game was All GROWN up, so all the questions/answers were about growing. Unlike the 1st game, this game had a Kitchen Timer Bonus Round. This week it was worth up to 9 points, and the question was: Name the 9 properties, including railroads, on a traditional US Monopoly game board that begin with the letters P through S. After everything was said and done, we whipped up a tiebreaker question to settle the game, with Mousaholics coming out on top once again. For their effort, though, The Team Wtih No Name received a coupon for free food the next time they came to Dog Haus. Here's a question that stumped everyone except for one team:
In 1978 residents of what city in New York had to be evacuated due to dangerous toxic chemicals buried in the area known as the Love Canal?
Most of the teams put down Buffalo, New York, but they were all wrong. The one team that was from New York, Inappropriately Confident, were the only ones that got it right:
That wraps up our first night of trivia at Dog Haus in the Arlington Highlands! Hopefully we can get even more people to come out next week to try their hand at some FREE trivia! It's also $3 Well Wednesdays at Dog Haus, so you can have a few drinks while enjoying the company of your team. I'll be your host for the foreseeable future, so come on out next week for a great time at Dog Haus! I'll be there, until next time!
